WordPress.com hosts WordPress blogs for free. Hosting your blog on WordPress.com lets you free from buying a hosting space and web server that supports WordPress. The WordPress.com team manages all the back-end stuff such as patching servers, upgrading software and just leaves blogging to you.
You must have few things in mind if you’re blog is hosted on WordPress.com
WordPress URL. Your blog URL will be something similar to www.yourname.wordpress.com. If you’re going to host a blog for professional purpose then using a sub domain showing that it’s a free service may not be that nice.

If you buy VIP WordPress.com package, which starts around $600/month, then you can use your own plugins. If you are new to WordPress blogging then better don’t try this.
WordPress.com is a good option for new bloggers who want to have things really simple. Registering is free, fast, easy, and within minutes you’ll start blogging. If you are serious about blogging then it’s better to go for self hosted blog. As you keep reading this post you will understand why I am saying so.
Self-hosted WordPress blog
Now here comes the favorite one. In case of self hosting just download the WordPress code from WordPress.org and installing it yourself. You can easily install it through Fantastico that is available in your website cPanel. Since you’re self hosting the blog you can control plugins, themes and all the WordPress files. You don’t have any restrictions.
This option gives you complete control over the blog but there is a little price for it. That’s for Web Hosting. I am using Just Host and it’s really good. When you go for self hosting then you carry the entire responsibility. You have to maintain backups of your blog and make sure that your blog is ready for a sudden surge in traffic, and you take the entire blame if something goes wrong.
Hosting your own installation of WordPress is a simple task if you’ve maintained a Web site before. If you’re new to Web hosting, you’ll have a good learning curve. When you learn and proceed you get a strong foundation so that in future if you get any trouble you will be able top solve it.

Self hosted WordPress blog is indeed better. One can run 3-4 site same time with freedom for year on $600, so why should we pay that to wordpress.com. Nice article.
