Facebook in real trouble
Facebook’s reputation is second to none. The popular social network is growing and is expected to exceed 500 million members in the coming weeks. On this occasion, Facebook should organize a little party to celebrate this huge success. But difficult to celebrate due to many critical vulnerabilities and hole in privacy management that is growing around Facebook.
Indeed, anti-facebook groups are beginning to gather here and there on the Internet. Since the formalization of its latest API (Open Graph) and the fact that Facebook is sharing “private” information with third-party sites has added more fuel to this issue. Many have started deleting their facebook accounts and they are moving to other social networking sites.
“How do I delete my Facebook account” has become the top search suggestion in Google Search. QuitFacebookDay.com is a new site launched by Matthew Milan and Joseph Dee and the site has a caption saying “If you agree that Facebook doesn’t respect you, your personal data or the future of the web, you may want to join us”. So far in the site 4025 users have committed to quit facebook and the number is increasing continuously. You give your login name / first name that you use on Facebook and so you agree to leave the social network on the symbolic date of May 31. Why this action? The goal of this group is to show Facebook that everyone disagrees with his handling of privacy. Due to its domination in Social Networking it seems that Facebook can do whatever it wants with our information..
Many who were impressed with facebook have now started understanding the problems this may cause. Facebook is obviously not evil but you must be careful on what you are doing otherwise the consequences may be really wild.
So how Facebook will react against this group anti-facebook. At present the company’s main intention is to be safe from legal point of view and next it has to close the holes in their platform. Let’s hope for the beat.
