3 Important Elements of Blog Design

On Feb 26, 2010 under Design

The blogosphere is expanding at faster pace like never before and everyday we are seeing new blogs. Nowadays even websites have blogs attached to them because of the various benefits blog has. If you are a blogger and serious about blogging then you must definitely focus on your blog design. Here I am going to target some important design elements that will add crunch to your blog and make it successful.

1. Header and Logo

Header is the first design element that reaches the users eye and whenever your blog comes to users mind only the header flashes. So it’s worth spending time on header design.  Headers tell users where they are on the web space. Many search in Google they may come to your site. When the header is clear they will easy understand where they have come and if they like the content they may turn regular visitors. When we say about header the main component is the logo and other background designs that makes the header more appealing.

The age old web tradition is to place the logo at the left end or rarely in the center. Earlier it was not intentional but now users are accustomed to it and hence it’s better to place the logo at left. The basic human mind starts to read anything from left corner and let’s stick to that.

Now I am going to present some headers that I like and after seeing you will also like it.

2. Navigation Bar

The navigation bar in most cases actually comes along with the header design. Navigation bar should have clear menus and at the same it should be catchy. Navigation bar improves site usability and encourages users to see other pages of the site. You would have created pages with some great content but if it’s not properly placed in your homepage then users won’t be able to access that page. So see to that your pages and categories look in a descent and attractive fashion.

Don’t stuff too much graphics in your navigation bar as it will increase the loading time. Small hover effect is sufficient.

I have presented the navigation and header design of the blog problogdesign. I am a great fan of this site and I regularly visit it. Just look at it.

3. Post Styling

Post title and Post content style is very important. Post title should look little big and proper font should be used. Have different font for your title and content. A 35 px height with nice font style will make post title look good. Enough spacing should be there between the words in the post title or else it may look cramped. If you are very keen you may also spend time on letter spacing to see which one looks good. The post title should slightly pop out from the content. A great post title may not drive enough attention if you don’t place it properly. For post content you can use Verdana or Tahoma with sans-serif styling. If you have photo blog that doesn’t has to much written content then you can go for different font styles as it won’t create much impact.  Below I have presented some post title styles that may help you in your design.
